Statistical Safeguarding

JST ASPIRE Japan–UK Collaboration for robust, human-centred AI systems

About the Project

This collaboration brings together researchers from the University of Warwick, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Oxford, the University of Tokyo, and the University of Osaka to establish a new paradigm for learning systems that maintain robustness and safety in real-world environments. It will advance human-centred AI by designing statistical methods and mathematical understanding that enhance reliability, transparency, and ethical integrity.

To foster the next generation of researchers, the programme will implement bilateral exchanges of early-career researchers and students between Japan and the UK. It will also organise summer schools, workshops, and retreats to provide mentoring opportunities and strengthen international collaboration between the two countries.
